What we do .

We are a high school aerial robotics team that designs, fabricates, and tests custom UAV's and related systems. Previous top contenders of AUVSI's SUAS competition, the team has recently pivoted to both StemED's Tello Drone Coding Competition (DCC) and Aerospace Robotics Competition (ARC).

01

Design

Engineering concepts learned in the classroom are put into effect to ensure the efficiency and reliability of the system.

02

Fabrication

Industry Standard fabrication techniques and technologies are used to ensure the integrity and precise tolerances of all parts.

03

Testing

Each UAV System is put through several months of testing and hundreds of flight hours to guarantee the reliability and sustainability of the system.

Competition Aspects

An outline of our mission requirements

Waypoint Navigation

The UAV will be given a series of waypoints to fly autonomously, and the UAV must approach each waypoint within 25 feet. The waypoint route may extend as long as ten miles.

ODCL

Object Detection Classification and Localization requires the team to identify two types of objects, standard and emergent. The standard object consists of a colored alphanumeric on a colored shape, while the emergent object is a clothed manikin. These objects can be found in the airdrop boundary which marks the target for the airdrop. The objects will be detected by the teams custom built neural network.

Deliverables

The team is responsible for the creation and submission of a Technical Design & Flight Readiness Review video presentation which details the technical design, testing, and preparedness.

AirDrop

The team must drop 5 16.9oz water bottles, and each bottle is labeled with the ODCL object the bottle should be dropped over. The bottles must be dropped undamaged and within 15 feet of the airdrop target.

Who we are

Team Animus Ferus is a high school aerial robotics team from Flint Hill School in Oakton Virginia. As a capstone class in the Flint Hill curriculum, the team serves as a showcase of students' cumulative knowledge and expertise.
